Strong Korea-US Alliance was one after another stressed in the
Korean-American Association's Friendship Night held on Oct. 25th at the
Grand Hyatt Seoul as well as the 49th SCM (Security Consultative
Meeting) Alliance Dinner held at the same place on Oct. 27th to
mark the visit of US Defense Secretary Mattis.
First of all, on the occasion of the Alliance Dinner in Celebration of
the 49th SCM, Prime Minister Lee Nak-yeon who was on hand, said that the dedication of the UN Armed
Forces kept democracy and freedom of the Republic of Korea,
touching upon the fact that
a total of 1,780,000 US soldiers took part in the Korean war.
Lee pledged to develop solid Korea-US Alliance more strongly, adding he sincerely hopes determined
willingness for the peace settlement on the peninsular would be sent
all over the world on the occasion of the 49th SCM.
Prior to the 49th SCM Alliance Dinner, President Moon Jae-in asked for SCM to play an important role to solve security crisis
on the peninsular such as North Korea's nuke & missile problem etc.
President Moon underlined that for both countries, there are common
pending goals which have to prevent provocations from North Korea
and allow to give up
North Korea's nuke by no means.
Korean-American Association also bestowed its Korea-US Friendship Award on former US Amb. Mark Lippert in recognition
of his excellent Amb. service during his duty in Korea, holding its Korean-American Association Friendship Night last week.
In his acceptance speech, Amb. Lippert said that we must not forget
Korea-US Alliance is the most important alliance in the most important area
geographically in the world.
US Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis and Republic of Korea Defense
Minister Song Young-moo convened along with Japanese Defense Minister Itsunori
Onodera the 9th Trilateral Defense Ministerial Meeting in Clark,
Philippines on Oct. 23 on the margins of the 2017 Association of
Southeast Asian Nations Defense Ministerial Meeting Plus and
condemned, in the strongest terms, North Korea's continued provocative actions.
