To the minds of most Koreans, Singapore is closely connected with Korean 

construction companies which have been involved in its landmark building 

construction such as Singapore's Marina Bay Sands etc.

Without exception in this year's Singapore 52nd National Day as well, such close 

connections between the two countries were mentioned by congratulatory 

remarks from Singapore Amb. Yip Wei Kiat as well as Minister Kim Hyun-mi from Land & Transport Ministry who was on hand to deliver her remarks.

In particular, Singapore Highspeed expressway railroad project is expected to 

produce mutual win-win synergy effect if the two countries get together well, according to Land & Transport 

Minister Kim.

During last three consecutive years, Transport Ministry has been guest honor 

for the Singapore Natioanl Day reception because of above-mentioned such connections between the two nations.

For this year's Singapore National Day, first off Singapore Amb. Yip Wei Kiat 

introduced that #OneNational-Together symbolizes our strength in social unity and multicultural harmony by 

his welcome speech.

On the economic front, the Amb. said pointed out: For the greater part of last 

year, we had to weather the challenges of a subdued global economy that had 

been weighed down by weak demand and political discontent". The good news 

is that since the end of last year, Singapore has returned to more robust economic 

growth.

With regard to the continued participation of Korean companies in Singapore, 

Yip Wei Kiat introduced the 370 billion won($325 million) deal which LS Cable & System won earlier this year to supply 

underground high-voltage cables for a project in Singapore.

In terms of high-level political exchanges, Singapore Amb. said that over the next few months, a 

few other Singapore ministers are expected to travel to Korea for either bilateral 

visits or to attend regional and multilateral meetings, touching upon the visits 

of Speaker Chung Se-kyun from the National Assembly as well as then-Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Joo Hyung-whan earlier this year.

As of this year 2017, ASEAN commemorates its 50th anniversary of ASEAN's 

establishment on Aug. 8 which is coincidentally also the anniversary of Singapore's 

diplomatic relations with Korea. In conjunction with such anniversary, Yip Wei Kiat 

paid attention to the Korean government's efforts to elevate the ASEAN-Korea partnerships initiated by President Moon Jae-in, adding Singapore looks forward to hearing more details on how this vision 

will be realized.

For Singapore, ASEAN-Korea cooperation is an integral part of our bilateral cooperation with Korea, said 

Wei Kiat. "We are ready to expand and deepen this partnership particularly in areas 

such as sustainable development, innovation, nurturing small & medium-sized enterprised and harnessing the opportunities of the 4th industrial revolution", 

the Amb. added.
