Korea-US alliance was once again confirmed as an asset which must be developed
more valuably between the two countries at the 2017 Korea America Friendship
Award & Ceremony to honor exemplary service members.
Hosted by Korea America Friendship Society on June 21st evening in a hotel Seoul,
this year's June Festival 2017 was focused on early THAAD allocation and Korea-US President Summit within this month among speeches, in particular.
First of all, president Han Chul-soo of Korea America Friendship Society pointed out that THAAD(Terminal High Altitude Area Defense) must be allocated as soon as possible, saying
that threat of North Korea's nuke & missile are actualized currently. Because of political
reasons, the allocation of THAAD should not be postponed, he said.
Concerning upcoming Korea-US Presidents Summit within this week, Charge d'Affaires ad interim Marc Knapper
and GEN Vincent K. Brooks said that both Embassies between the two countries are
endeavoring diligently for the great success of both States President Summit and he
believes that both countries President Summit will accelerate the two nations' alliance
even more, respectively.
Winners of the Korea America Friendship Society Award 2017 were ILT Kwon, Jean from
US Army, GMI Branden Eric Simmons from US Army, AIC Jasmyne A. Christopher from
US Air Force, SSgt Pablo Abad from US Marine Corps., and last but not least Mr.
Robert F. Nelson from DoD Civilian.
According to the Society, Mr. Nelsonn work ethic embedded in professional relationships
builds strong alliance and cross cultural teams responsive to all contingencies and
incidents has been proven to be paramount to mission success.
Staff Sergenat Pablo Abad, US Marine Forces Korea Center Planner, has spearheaded
volunteerism at US Marine Forces Korea and Airman First Class Jasmyne A. Christopher,
Geospatial Imagery Analyst, is a zealous advocate for promoting goodwill in the
local community and improving Korean-American relations by continuously striving to support local residents.
Gunners Mate First Class Petty Officer Branden Eric Simmons, Commander, US Naval
Forces Korea, contributed to the local community and enhanced ROK-US alliance while stationed at USAG Yongsan and last but not least 1LT Kwon, 229th
Signal Company Executive Officer, was a leading effort in bridging cultural gaps and
establishing lasting relationships not only with the Republic of Korea(ROK) Army counterparts, but with her surrounding community as well.
