-Korea is one of three big trading partners for Peru: Amb. Escala

Amb. Elard Escala, General Director of Asia and Oceania of the MFA of Peru visited Seoul to attend The 9th Forum for East Asia-Latin America Cooperation (FEALAC) Cyber Secretariat Workshop and Coordination Meeting.

To welcome his visit to Seoul, Peru envoy Daul Matute-Mejia hosted a welcoming reception at the Peru Amb. residence, located in Itaewon Seoul last Wendesday (March 27th evening) while Costa Rica Amb. Rodolfo Solano Quiros, Portugal Amb. Manuel Goncalves De Jesus, Japan Amb. Nagamine Yasumasa, Brazil envoy Luis Henrique Sobreira Lopes were on hand.

The 9th Forum for East Asia-Latin America Cooperation (FEALAC) Cyber Secretariat Workshop and Coordination Meeting took place in Seoul from March 26 until 27, with delegations from 31 East Asian and Latin American member states in attendance, accrding to MOFAT.

Touching upon an important fact for bilateral relations between Korea and Peru that Korea is one of three big trading partners for Peru, Escala said in his return remarks: “I sincerely hope that more Korean companies will be able to win in more many bids the Government of Peru offers including its infrastructure projects, construction bids, to name just a few”. He introduced that big trading partner countries with Peru are in the orders of China, US, Korea, Japan and India.

The FEALAC Cyber Secretariat has been holding the Workshop every year since 2011, contributing to the promotion of friendship and cooperation among the FEALAC member states and to the development of FEALAC. During the Workshop, participants reviewed the implementation of the New FEALAC Action Plan, adopted at the 8th FEALAC Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Busan in August 2017, and focused their discussions on the way forward for FEALAC, which marks the 20th anniversary of its creation this year.

The Coordination Meeting, which was held on the sidelines of the Workshop, brought together 13 countries, including former and current Regional Coordinators, and Co-chairs of Working Groups and the Steering Committee. They discussed the schedule of official meetings, including the 9th FEALAC Foreign Ministers’ Meeting to be held in the Dominican Republic in the second half of the year, as well as ways to improve the operation of the FEALAC Trust Fund.

Since the launch of FEALAC in 1999, the ROK has played active roles and made contributions to enhance connectivity between East Asia and Latin America, including serving as Regional Coordinator and Chair of a Working Group; hosting the Cyber Secretariat; contributing to the Trust Fund; and chairing the Steering Committee. The ROK will continue its diplomatic efforts in line with its policy for diplomatic diversification, including playing a leading role in the development of FEALAC, said MOFAT spokesperson.

On the other hand, president Shin Hyun-doo from the NDNnews who was on hand, delivered a plague to Peru Amb. Matute-Mejia regarding Peru envoy's advisor appointment plague whose appointment ceremony took place actually last December, 2018.
