“Korea-Russia relations have been developing successfully recently in various areas”: Russia envoy Kulik

Russia Embassy’s ‘Russia Friends reception’ has been an annual event which is being held every year in Seoul to confirm mutual friendship & cooperation between private sectors, not political or any diplomatic dimension.

Without exception, this year’s Russia Friends reception was held last week on Dec. 21st evening at the Grand Hall, Russia Embassy Seoul under the auspieces of new-accredited Russia envoy Andrey Borisovich Kulik & his spouse Mme. Marina S. Suanova.

Since presenting his credentials to President Moon Jae-in, Korean government at the beginning of Oct. this year, Kulik has been garnering many expectations from Korean public by unfolding many diplomatic activities.

As an example, Kulik has answered in a courtesy call to Speaker Moon Hee-sang, National Assembly that he sincerely hopes mutual cooperation relations between parliamentary level between the two nations would be developed as a more substantial relations among others and regular channels to communicate will be opened in multidimensional aspects, adding Korea-Russia relations have been developing successfully recently in various areas.

In conjunction with the so-called President Moon’s peace-process initiative on the peninsula, Russia envoy Kulik emphasized Russia supports Korean government’s peace policy, touching upon that if the two countries endeavour jointly, the two counterparts will pave the way for new era of cooperation & joint prosperity.

In terms of cooperations with local government in the nation as well, Russia envoy Kulik has been consolidated such cooperations by visiting Changwon World Shooting Tournament opening ceremony, Korea-Russia local government cooperation forum held in Pohang at the beginning of Nov. this year.

On the other hand, ahead of the 30th anniversary for diplomatic ties between the two nations in the upcoming 2020, Russia President Vladimir Putin’s official visit to Seoul is being propelled, according to Korean Amb. Woo Eun-gun in Russia.

People-to-people exchanges between the two countries will surpass 600,000 peoples and trade volume appears to surpass 20 biillion dollars, said Amb. Woo in a press conference with local journalists held after the annual overseas Ambs. conference in Seoul.

Korean Embassy in Russia is propelling three important tasks preferentially, that is, first the regular contact of Korea-Russia Summit meeting, secondly confidence-building by high-ranking officials exchange enlargement, and last but not least public diplomacy strengthening by cultural & people-to-people exchange enlargement, accoding to MOFAT.
