- A new karma for the Korea-German relations at the historical juncture when new movements happen for the peace settlement on the Korean peninsula

Following their wedding party in Berlin, Germany, the two couples hosted another wedding reception for a total of 400 local friends including Germany Amb. Stephan AUER & his spouse Vera AUER & German diplomats, businessmen in addition to former Prime Ministers of Korea such as Prime Minister Chung woon-chan, Prime Minister Lee Hong-goo, and Prime Minister Kim Hwang-shik, to name just a few, at a local hotel Seoul on Oct. 28th noon.

As Germany journalist Dr. Theo Sommer described it through his congratulatory remarks during the wedding ceremony, former Germany Chancellor Gerhardt Schroeder can serve as a good advisor for us at the historical juncture when new movements happen for the peace settlement on the Korean peninsula.

Gerhard Fritz Kurt Schröder; born 7 April 1944 is a German politician, and served as Chancellor of Germany from 1998 to 2005. Soyeon Schroeder-Kim translated Schroeder’s memoir into Korean and acted as interpreter for the speech of former Gerhardt Schroeder after his retirement, according to sources.

According to Dr. Theo Sommer who met Soyeon Schroeder-Kim over last 20 years including Korea-Germany Forum etc., she was beyond a simple interpreter while playing a role as an excellent culture missionary and a cultural mediator connecting Germany & Korean culture. From the perspective of her business, Soyeon Schroeder-Kim allowed a total of 80 Korean companies to enter into the German State of North Rhine-Westphalia for the success of their business.

By his reply address, her new husband former Germany Chancellor Gerhardt Schroeder said: “Soyeon’s first impression were that she is open, her subjectivity is distinct and last but not least she is a modern woman”.

As regarding former Germany Chancellor Gerhardt Schroeder, Schroeder’s keen insights are being assessed to be still effective for today’s circumstances in considerations of his many remarks that asserted: “Immigration is necessary, but it must be an appropriate level. What is most important, there is no problem when it is done within the extent to accept them from the standpoint of another society receiving immigrations. Or Russia & integrated Europe must go together toward their historic development among their partnership relations. Etc.”

In a nutshell, the chancellorship of Gerhard Schröder was an era of far-reaching social and economic reforms. The core element of Schröder’s reform policy was Agenda 2010. It helped to increase the competitiveness of the German economy and safeguard Germany’s industrial base while creating millions of new jobs. At the same time, the Schröder administration kicked off a green revolution by committing itself to the elimination of nuclear power and the expansion of renewable energy. In the area of social policy, the government steered a progressive course, introducing measures for the active integration of minorities, for equal rights for gays and lesbians, and for a forward-thinking family policy.
