-“Completion of new Swiss Embassy Building contains a significant importance to pave the way for a new chapter between the two nations”: Castelmur

Ahead of its complete completion of new Swiss Embassy Building on May, 2019, Swiss Amb. Linus VON CASTELMUR & Mme. threw a luncheon reception to mark Swiss National Day 2018 as well, last Friday noon on Oct. 19th.

Switzerland has been contributing to the peace stabilization on the Korean peninsula during last 6 decades since the country had dispatched a total of 96 Swiss Army servicemen for the first time in 1953 to NNSC, established to supervise armistice agreement of the Korean War.

To confirm such a long friendship & continuing cooperation between Korea & Switzerland, its complete completion of new Swiss Embassy Building contains a significant importance to pave the way for a new chapter between the two nations, said Castelmur during his welcome remarks, held at the garden of the new Swiss Embassy.

What is most noteworthy, is that Castelmur & guest honor Cho Hyun, deputy minister from MOFAT reached to same consensus that nuclearization on the peninsula is important for the regional stabilization on the Northeast Asia and the two countries will do their utmost to solve it through diplomatic solution, no matter how it is difficult to achieve it.

Regarding the two countries’ cooperation circumstances recently, Castelmur touched upon regular contacts of the high-ranking offcials policy council as well as security cooperation seminar first off. Accordingly, 1st vice minister Lim Sung-nam from MOFAT discussed comprehensive multinational pending issues such as politics, economy, commerce, science technology, Korean peninsula as well as North East Asia political circumstance, Europe political circumstance and last but not least UN on last March, 2018. Moreover, the 3rd Security Cooperation Seminar held on May this year in Swizterland discussed South Korea-North Korea relations as well North Korea nuke problem, refugee terror problem etc.

Secondly concerning science technology cooperation, Swiss envoy Castelmur pointed out that when Korea’s President visited Switzerland on January, 2014, the two countries have agreed to strengthen science technology cooperation, mentioning that the 3rd Life Science Symposium, the 4th Life Science Symposium and the 5th Life Science Symposium took place in Seoul on July, 2016, on June 2017 and on Feb. 2018 during 3 consecutive years.

Thirdly, Castelmur mentioned that cultural cooperation also is an important axis for increasing bilateral relations between Korea & Swizterland, adding vocational education cooperation foundation has been constructed between the two countries with the State Visit of Korean President to Switzerland on Jan. 2014 as a momentum.

The Seoul Diplomatic Corps. Showed keen interest in the complete completion of new Swiss Embassy Building, attending in a pre-opening event last Friday in large numbers.
