-Azerbaijan celebrates the centennial anniversary of their independence this year with the heightened sense of pride and particular spirit of festivity.

Official reception dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic was held in a downtown Hotel Seoul last Monday(May 21st) under the auspices of the Embassy of Azerbaijan Seoul.

Today the Republic of Azerbaijan under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev as the independent, sovereign and democratic country brings into the reality the aspirations and ideals of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic with its good and effective management, socio-economic and human capital development as well as its growing role and prestige in international relations, said Azerbaijan Amb. Ramzi Teymurov by his speech during its welcome ceremony.

 

On May 28, 1918 the first parliamentary democracy in the Muslim world - Azerbaijan Democratic Republic was founded with the adoption of Declaration on Independence, according to the Embassy Azerbaijan Seoul. Moreover as stated in the Declaration of Independence, establishment of friendly relations with all nations, especially neighboring nations and states, was determined as one of the foreign policy priorities of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic.

Against such backdrop, the Azerbaijani people treasuring the statehood policy of the national leader Heydar Aliyev celebrate the centennial anniversary of their independence this year with the heightened sense of pride and particular spirit of festivity, stressed Teymurov.

 

Touching upon the fact that the diplomatic relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Korea was established on March 23, 1992 following by Azerbaijan’s regaining its independence from former Soviet Union, chairman Lee Myung-su from the Korea-Azerbaijan Parliamentary Friendship Group pointed out through his congratulatory remarks that the relations between two countries have become more intensive after the establishment of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in the Republic of Azerbaijan in 2006 and the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Republic of Korea in February 2007. Lee has committed himself to not spare any assistance and help from the standpoint of the National Assembly Korea so that the two countries can gain mutual synergy effects by cooperating more closely in many areas.

Introducing that Azerbaijan, as a country located at the junction of civilizations, cultures and religions, has much to offer to the world community in terms of intercultural dialogue, tolerance and respect for others, MOFAT Amb. Moon Duk-ho responsible for international security underlined that there are many cooperation potentials for the two countries to cooperate in the fields of energy, infra and last but not least people-to-people exchange.

 

As regarding economic relations, The Azerbaijani government considers Korea one of the major partners in the world with which it carries economic and trade cooperation, said Teymurov. Economic relations between Azerbaijan and Korea are active, especially in sectors such as transport, information and telecommunications, alternative energy, know-how, environment and construction. In terms of cultural, scientific-technical and humanitarian cooperation as well, the cooperation between two countries in cultural, scientific-technical and humanitarian spheres has been deepened along with political and economical fields.
