“2nd largest economy in West Africa while being as No.1 country for doing business among West African countries”; Ghana
As 2nd largest economy in West Africa as well as while being
as No.1 country for doing business among West African
countries, it was apparent that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
in Ghana places its top priority on economy diplomacy
through a diplomatic reception, hosted by new arrived Ghana
Amb. Mrs. Difie Agyarko Kusi.
Held in the Grand Hyatt Seoul on March 6th evening, the
61st Ghana Independence anniversary reception served as
an opportunity also to awaken the importance of Ghana
Independence for the entire African countries in terms of
its inspirations for them.
Through her New Year Message sent to the NDNnews
(www.ndnnews.co.kr) & The Seoulcity magazine, Ghana
envoy has touched upon the strong and cordial relations
that have existed between our two countries over the last
forty years, saying that we hope for even more of the same
in the next forty like bellows.
BY H.E. DIFIE AGYARKO KUSI (MRS.),
AMBASSADOR OF THE REPUBLIC OF GHANA
TO THE REPUBLIC OF KOREA.
I presented my credentials to President Moon Jae-in on 2nd November 2017 and we had the chance to touch
briefly on the strong and cordial relations that have existed
between our two countries over the last forty years. We hope
for even more of the same in the next forty.
With that bright hope shining on our collective path, I,
on behalf of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the people of the Ghana, together with the
entire staff of the Embassy, would like to take this opportunity
to wish the President, his family and all the people of the
Republic of Korea, a joyous and restful season, as well as a
peaceful and hugely prosperous New Year.
Touching upon such economy priority diplomacy of Ghana
Government, Mrs. Kusi said at the podium: “Noting that South Korea’s development was largely based on close government and
private sector collaboration. Ghana can learn from it by creating
the necessary environment and empowering the private sector
to help accelerate the country’s economic and industrial development.”
On the importance of Foreign Direct Investment in a country’s development process, it has been noted that specific growth-oriented industries (technology transfer) be identified from
South Korea to help augment Ghana’s efforts at industrialization. Such a policy option which has
the potential for increasing productivity and export earnings
can help Ghana to bridge the trade deficit with South Korea,
Kusi pointed out.
Under the leadership of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana gained
independence from British colonial rule on 6th March, 1957
thus ending decades of white minority dominance, according
to the Embassy of Ghana.
Subsequently, Ghana played a central role in the decolonization
of Africa. The country’s independence was significant for the continent as it
demonstrated the collective strength of the African spirit,
and served as a precedent for many African countries to break
free from the clutches of colonial rule.
