Russia Defender Day, held amid hot fever and atmosphere of
the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games at the Seoul
Millennium Hilton on Feb. 20th evening this year, allowed
reception participants to awaken that Russia servicemen
served always as the basis to maintain the strength of the
nation from the standpoint of the Russian Federation.
In that regard, Military attache Colonel Mr. Andrey P. Falileev,
Embassy of the Russian Federation in Seoul garnered special
attention by stressing in his address, dilivered on the podium
to mark Russia Defender Day 2018 that one of most important
priorities for foreign policies of Russia is to solve pending issues
on the peninsular peacefully & diplomatically.
Besides its main tasks to guard reliably sovereignty and security
of Russia, Falileev added that Russia servicemen have been
playing their important role for peacekeeping activities as
well, in the region & around the world.
Separately from Seoul event, Russian President Vladimir
Putin has paid tribute to the Russian military at a ceremony
for presenting national awards on the occasion of the
Defender of the Fatherland Day, according to the Embassy of
the Russian Federation in Seoul.
“We honour those for whom military service became a
mission and the meaning of life-true patriots, who reliably guard the sovereignty and security
of Russia, and secure the peace of our citizens,” Putin said at
the award ceremony on last Friday.
The national awards were presented “to soldiers who have
committed a heroic deed in the name of the Fatherland and
to the best units and formations of the Army and the Navy.
Putin presented a Gold Star medal of the Hero of Russia to
the family of Major Roman Filipov, a military pilot who died
heroically fighting terrorists in Syria on Feb. 3. In conjunction
with such fighting terrorists, the Russia President thanked
Russian servicemen who took part in the anti-terrorism operations in Syria, which displayed heroism,
staunchness and bravery, according to the Embassy of the
Russian Federation in Seoul.
What was most remarkable event between Korea & Russian
side in Seoul last week, was that President Moon Jae-in invited Russian Presidential Aide Igor Levitin and
representatives of the Olympic Athletes from Russia (OAR)
including Russia Amb. Alexander Timonin in Seoul & his
Embassy entourages to the Blue House (Cheong Wa Dae)
on Feb. 20 to encourage them in their Olympic endeavors.
According to the Blue House, President Moon mentioned
the outstanding performances of the OAR men’s ice hockey team and figure skaters, saying, “Such talented
Russian athletes’ participation contributed a lot to make
the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games a richer
festival for the international community.”
The president was reported to have also said that Korean
government will provide support for the success of the
2018 FIFA World Cup Russia that will start in June. Russian
Presidential Aide Igor Levitin delivered the message from
Russian President Vladimir Putin that he “personally
appreciates Korean Olympic fans for supporting Russians”
and invited President Moon to Russia to watch World Cup
matches, according to the Blue House.
