to mark Switzerland's participation in the 2018 PyeongChang
Winter Olympic Games hosted a Francophonie Night to cement
friendship & solidarity among French-speaking countries once again during the PyeongChang Olympic
Games in Korea while Austria & Sweden etc. installed their
country publicity booth to boost their country image for
the visitors during the Winter Olympic Games in Gangwon Province, Korea.
Swiss President Alain Berset, Dr. Linus von Castelmur who serves
as Ambassador of Switzerland to the Republic Korea & his
spouse, other 4 French-speaking countries envoys who included
Canada Amb. Eric Walsh, Morocco Amb. Chafik Rachadi & his
Amb. Adrien Theatre, and last but not least Senegal Amb.
Mamadou Gueye Faye & his spouse in addition to Mrs. Fabien
Penone who is spouse of French Amb. were main guests among
about 150 invited guests.
Participants engaged in animated conversation against the beautiful
backdrop of YongPyong Resort Ski venue and by moving to Gangneung,
including Swiss President Alain Berset, Swiss Amb. Castelmur,
and its delegation watched preliminary rounds of the women`s
ice hockey competition between Korea United Team and
Switzerland held in the night on Feb. 10 at the Kwandong Ice Hockey Center.
Discussing cooperation on the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic and
Paralympic Winter Games, issues involving the Korean Peninsula
and bilateral cooperation in several Heads of States before the
opening of the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games who
visited Seoul, President Moon from the Republic of Korea hosted Swiss President Alain Berset
as well, according to the Embassy of Switzerland.
In the meeting, President Moon told his Swiss counterpart
that, “The joint South-North Korean women’s ice hockey team will pave a new path for peace and harmony,”
while wishing good luck to both the joint Korean team and to
the Swiss team, which will meet each other in the preliminary
rounds of the women`s ice hockey competition on Feb. 10.
Hoping for a success of the upcoming Winter Olympics, the
Swiss president said, “Dialogue must continue in order to build
a peace structure, even after the end of the PyeongChang
Winter Olympics.”, according to the Blue House.
