Following a joint reception to commemorate 5 Central American
countries’ Independence as well as 55th Diplomatic ties anniversary
with the Republic of Korea last Sep. this year, Guatemala Embassy
hosted its cultural evening to mark 55th anniversary of diplomatic
establishment with Korea at the Yongsan District Office on Oct. 31st evening.
Middle & South American envoys over a total of 15 ambassadors
showed up including: Costa Rica Amb. Rodolfo Solano Quiros, Chile
Amb. Fernando Danus, Colombia Amb. Tito Saul Pinilla Pinilla, Mexico
Amb. Bruno Figueroa, Panama Amb. Ruben Eloy Arosemena Valdes,
Honduras Amb. Virgilio Paredes Traperv, Vietnam Amb. Nguyen Vu
Tu, Romania Amb. Mihai Ciompec, Angola Amb. Albino Malungo,
Paraguay Amb. Irineo Raul Silvero Silvagni, & last but not least
Ecuador Amb. Oscar Gustavo Herrera Gilbert etc.
In his welcoming remarks, Guatemala Amb. Herbert Esturdo
Meneses Coronado said: “Since the diplomatic ties in Oct. 24,
1962, the two countries have signed a total of 21 cooperative MOUs
so far, among which 7 negotiations are under way.

The Republic of Korea opened its Embassy on Sep., 1974 in Guatemala
and Guatemala opened its Seoul Embassy on Oct, 1977 in Korea respectively.
SICA(Central American Integration System) & Korea have been held
twelve times’ vice ministerial meeting so far to coordinate pending
issues such as health problem, education, SOC, public safety etc.
to name just a few.
As representative of 5 Central American countries, El Salvador Amb.
Milton Alcides Magana Herrera emphasized through his speech last
Sep. that all 5 Central AmericanCountries intend to strengthen
dynamic human exchanges in the fields of academic & education fields
between the two counterparts.
5 Central American Countries whose GDP reaches to 225.1 billion
dollars with the total population of approximately 47 million, inked
FTA with Korea to expand their investment and trade.
