In the Service of Democracy, Peace and Development

This is the motto that describes the work and mission of the Hanns 

Seidel Foundation (HSF) in more than 65 countries worldwide.

Hanns Seidel Foundation marked its 30th anniversary with a Bayerishe 

Night function on Oct. 23rd evening at the Grand Hilton Millennium 

located in Hongeundong, Seoul while Germany Amb. Stephan Auer, 

Mr. Hartmut Koschyk who served as chairman of the Korea-Germany Parliamentary Friendship Association, KGCCI president & 

CEO Ms. Barbara Zollmann including many distinguished guests 

from home & Germany over 300 peoples were on hand.

Touching upon its main project area regarding Korean peninsular 

reconciliation and unification to name just a few, Dr. Bernhard Seliger 

who is Resident representative of Hanns Seidel Foundation in Korea 

said by his welcome speech that he would like to emphasize once 

again its foundation motto “In the Service of Democracy, Peace and 

Development” for the partnerships between its Hanns Seidel Foundation 

and Korean partners in the years to come.

Mr. Hartmut Koschyk who served as chairman of the Korea-Germany Parliamentary Friendship Association, pledged that Germany 

will be along with Korea toward the process of its unification and 

Congresswoman Park Young-sun from the Democratic Party praised that the presence of the Hanns 

Seidel Foundation is conspicuous in circumstances Korean peninsular 

crisis are being escalsted recently among others.

Since 1987, Hanns Seidel Foundation Korea, stationed in Seoul, has 

worked on topics related to the inner-Korean process of reconciliation. In South Korea, this entails regional 

development, in which the border region (DMZ) is especially focused 

upon. In North Korea, HSF attempts to contribute to the peaceful 

development of the region through activities that aim for international 

integration and cooperation in matters concerning the environment. 

By offering a diverse range of activities, HSF Korea has become a 

trusted partner in both South and North Korea. The pronounced 

project goals of HSF Korea are:

Promotion of a Peaceful Unification on the Korean Peninsula

Sharing the German Experience of Division and Reunification and 

discussing its implications

Reintegration of North Korea with a focus on international 

environmental networks

International Cooperation and Exchange on the Korean Peninsula 

and beyond

Sustainable development with a focus on transboundary areas

Multiple and varying entities aid HSF Korea in its projects. They 

include regional and district administrations in the Korean border 

area, as well as the involved area planning institutions, researchers of 

academical and practical research in institutes and universities, 

politicians in governments and parliamentarians of different levels, 

civil groups concerned with inner-Korean reconciliation and environment, and governmental and semi-private institutions in North Korea.
