In a kickoff fundraising gala of the Asia Society Korea 10th Anniversary

held in a downtown hotel on Sep. 19th evening to shape the next 10

years of US-Asia engagement, a total of over 20 envoys & senior diplomats from

the Seoul Diplomatic Corps. attended with a view to sharing its fundraising goal.

Asia Society has been the leading educational organization dedicated

to promoting mutual understanding and strengthening partnerships

among peoples, leaders and institutions of Asia and the United States

in a global context. Across the fields of arts, business, culture, education,

and policy, the Society has been providing insight, generating ideas,

and promoting collaboration to address present challenges and create a shared future.

Founded in 1956 by John D. Rockefeller 3rd, Asia Society has been

playing both as a nonpartisan, and as a nonprofit institution with major

centers and public buildings in New York, Hong Kong and Houston, and

offices in Los Angeles, Manila, Mumbai, San Francisco, Seoul, Shanghai,

Sydney, Washington, DC and Zurich. Since its inception in 2008, Asia

Society Korea has been providing Amb. Lecture series and educational

programs with its members among others.

Pledging to dedicate himself further to promoting cooperations between

nations and regions, chairman Shin Dong-bin who has been leading Asia Society Korea during last decade, said

during the opening ceremony with a MC Yvonne Yoon Hee Kim,

executive director of Asia Society Korea: “Asia Society Korea also will

be able to affect more positive influence in a time when cooperations all

over the world are needed in order to give to pledge the shape of peaceful future”.

Touching upon a valuable fact that Asia Society has been contributing

greatly to partnerships between bilateral nations and instutions, 1st vice

minister Yim Sung-rak from MOFAT expected that Asia Society Korea would serve as a

vibrant hub of US-Asia engagement during next decade, adding the future on the peninsular

will become a peace index in the Northeast Asia.

8th former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon who accepted his lecture request, pointed out: “Now is the time to

mobilize full implications and sanctions toward North Korea who makes

it its business to nuclear missile provocation launchings”.

Another highlight of Kickoff Fundraising Gala of the Asia Society Korea

10th Anniversary was an award ceremony which bestows ambassadors

of the year award on 3 ambassadors who are H.E. Azerbaijan Amb. Ramzi

Teymurov, H.E. India Amb. Vikram Doraiswami, & last but not least H.E.

Kuwait Amb. Bader Alawadi in recognition of their diplomatic services

who contributed to the understanding & cooperations between nations.

For the live auction, Cigars worth 700,000 won, carpet worth 2,200,000

won and pashmina shawl worth 600,000 were donated by Kuwait Amb.

Bader Alawadi, Azerbaijan Amb. Ramzi Teymurov, and India Amb.

Vikram Doraiswami respectively.
