Chilgok, North Kyungsang Province, is a place in which a bloody battle 

took place during 55 days from Aug. 1st through Sep. 24th at that time of 

the 6.25 Korean War period.

Furthermore, Chilgok is a place which cherishes painful war history 

demonstrating this place was a last fortress to protect the Republic of 

Korea such as Waegwan railroad bridge detonating, Jago Mountain 328 

high ground hand-to-hand fighting, and last but not least Yuhak Mountain battle etc.

However, Chilgok who protected freedom democracy from crisis, wants to 

disseminate valuable peace's message all over the world. In that regard, 

Governor Kim Kwan-yong from North Kyungsang Province, County mayor 

Baik Seon-gi from Chilgok County as well as chairman Chang In-hee from the Organizing Committee of the 5th Nakdong River World Peace 

Culture Festival sincerely invite the Seoul Diplomatic Corps. including of 

course, all travellors to the festival which will deliver thanks and love to the 

participated soldiers of the Korean War as well as peace's message never 

seen anywhere in the world from Sep. 22nd until Sep. 24th, this year.

The purpose of the Nakdong River World Peace Culture Festival is to spread 

peace's message toward the world by preparing the venue of the festival 

which prays the peace settlement on the global village and on the peninsular. 

Chilgok County mayor Baik Seon-gi pledged to sublimate Nakdong River World Peace Culture Festival as a 

representative festival in Chilgok region.

Spokesperson of the 5th Nakdong River World Peace Culture Festival said: 

"Firstly, it wants to show the shape of Chilgok Country which contributes 

to the peace of global village. Secondly, the festival wants to show the 

shape of Chilgok County which implants deep pride for the generations 

after the Korean war. Thirdly, it wants to thank for the participated 

countries and participated soldiers during the Korean War period."

Major contents include experience/exhibition contents, participation 

programs, differentiated programs, event programs, connected events etc.

Among others as a hub of national defense, Chilgok built Gasan fortress 

during Joseon Dynasty and installed Gyeongsang Dohobu and it became 

the last fortification of nation protection during Korean War and also the 

home of defense by establishing the foundation of counterattack during the dabu-dong battle, governor Baek Seon-gi from Chilgok-gun encouraged visitors to visit Nakdong River World Peace Culture Festival 

at the end of this month before the Chuseok.

Nowadays, Chilgok-gun is vigorously developing to be an industrial city and suburb agriculture 

city by convenience of transportation hub as it is located in the middle of 

the interior, he emphasized.

With regard to tourist attractions, the Seoul Diplomatic Corps. also can 

drop by Chilgok, Gasan-sanseong(Gasan-sanseong Fortress) which was built in three sections to defend from invasions 

by other countries after the Japanese Invasion in 1592 and the Manchu war 

of 1636.

Dabu-dong War Memorial Hall was established in 1981 to commemorate the 

victory of ‘Dabu-dong Battle’ during the Korean war as part of War 

Memorial Monuments. 

Visitors to Chilgok County also can catch the opportunity to visit Dabu-dong Victory Monument which was erected to commemorate the military 

services of the U.S. 27th foot regiment and the Korean First Division.
