Regarding recent Korea's President election result on last May this year, Cote
d'Ivoire President Alassane Ouattara sent a message which congratulates high
political maturity degree of Korea.
Delivering such a message to audiences who gathered in a reception to mark
Cote d'Ivoire 57th Independence Day held in a downtown hotel Seoul on Aug.
7th evening, Cote d'Ivoire Amb. Sylvestre Kouassi BILE spared his speech's
considerable part on collaborating projects between Korea and Cote d'Ivoire
which commemorate their 56th diplomatic ties as of this year.
From Korean side, MOFA deputy minister Choi Jong-moon and Korea-Cote d'Ivoire Parliamentary Friendship Association chairman Kim Sung-shik were present to say their congratulatory remarks respectively in addition
to Diplomatic Corps. including Korean guests.
Pointing out first off that the success of the Cote d'Ivoire government's
ambitious 'Triumph of the Elephant' 2012-2015 economic recovery program raised confidence in the country's future
progress, BILE seemed to have big expectations on Korea-Africa partnership policy to which Korea's new government attaches importance
to diversify its diplomatic priority besides existing U.S, Russia, China & Japan.
Regarding ongoing economic cooperation projects between Korea & Cote d'Ivoire,
BILE introduced that Korea's Import & Export Bank concluded with Cote d'Ivore
an EDCF loan contract which provides a total of 200 million dollar scale including
110 million dollar etc. to be used for the construction project of Cote d'Ivoire
National Cancer Center. Cote d'Ivoire National Cancer Center construction project
is a project which supports medical technical equipments and manpower
education etc. while building newly a specialized hospital of a total of 200 sickbeds
in Cote d'Ivoire.
In conjunction with health support for poverty class in Cote d'Ivoire, KOICA is
schedueld to invest a total of 6.35 million dollars during the period of 2016-2018 while on the other hand, considering another 5.50 million dollars for
sanitation improvement projects in Cote d'Ivoire, according to BILE.
In terms of manager nurturing projects or Saemaeul Movement Globalization
projects as well, the Republic of Korea is helping Cote D'Ivoire through KOICA
and Saemaeul Movement Globalization Foundation for the income increase of
a rural community in Cote d'Ivoire.
Through his Amb. activities during last 4 & half years in Korea, Cote d'Ivoire
Amb. Sylvestre Kouassi BILE played a big bridge role by narrowing each other's
understanding gap between the two countries and attended many regional trip
programs to understand Korea even more deeply among Diplomatic Corps. So
in recognition of his outstanding Amb. activities to promote bilateral ties, The
NDNnews (www.ndnnews.co.kr) & Seoulcity magazine also bestowed Proud
Amb. Award on Cote d'Ivoire Amb. BILE recently.
On the cultural front, Cote d'Ivoire Amb. BILE assessed that new chapter of
collaboration will be paved for the two countries as Korea joined as observer
country in the 2017 8th La Francophonie Games which was held in Abidjan
during July 21-30. In addition to the various sports descipline: African Wrestling, athletics,
basketball, road cycling, football, judo and table tennis, the cultural aspects of
the competition included Digital creation, Hip-hop, juggling, poetrty, photograpahy , puppetry, sculpture, storytelling and
songs amongst others.
Côte d’Ivoire had been a colony of France since 1893. It gained independence from
French rule on August 7, 1960. Félix Houphouët–Boigny was its first president and he served in this capacity his country until
his death in December, 1993.4.
Aspiring to be a country that is a gateway to a sub-region of more than 300 million peoples, Cote d'Ivoire is one of the top 10
reformer economies and is on a solid post-war economic revival.
On behalf of the government, deputy minister Choi Jong-moon from MOFA paid attention to the fact that Cote d'Ivoire serves as a hub
of West Africa and Taekwondo gains big popularity at the same time.
Despite of a peak of summer holiday seasons for the Diplomatic Corps., many
attendances from the Seoul Diplomatic Corps. proved Amb. BILE's personal
